Sizing Guide
Neckties
Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all solution to neckties. Our step-by-step guide below takes into account all factors (e.g. trouser rise, preferred knot, posture, neck size, belly (or lack of it) that determine your ideal necktie length.
1. Pick an existing necktie (any necktie – even one that does not fit well is fine!), lay it flat on the ground and without stretching the necktie, measure it from tip to tip with a ruler or measuring tape.
2. Wearing a collared shirt and a pair of trousers, tie your usual knot (we suggest a four-in-hand knot) such that the front tip of the necktie falls in the middle of your belt buckle or your trouser’s waistband. Be sure to knot it as tightly as you normally wear a necktie – when tied, you should not see a gap between the collar and the top of the knot. Please note that your trouser rise, or how high it sits on your waist, substantially affects the length required. We suggest doing this step with the actual pair of trousers that you plan to wear the ordered necktie with.
3. Ideally, you would want the front tip to be in the middle of your belt buckle or your trouser’s waistband, and the rear tip of the tie to end up around 1″ shorter than the front tip. If the necktie you have just tied on fits exactly as described, then the length measured in step 1 is exactly right for you. If the rear tip of the necktie ends up shorter or longer than is ideal, simply add or subtract the required amount from the necktie length measured in step 1 to get your ideal necktie length.
4. Please bear in mind that all neckties tend to stretch around 1″ or so after being worn a few times (for unlined grenadine neckties, it’ll stretch out 1″ longer than this), so please take into account this stretch when specifying your length. Some folks prefer the back blade of their neckties to be longer than the front, and if this is what you prefer, you can order a neckties to be longer by however much more you desire.
If measuring an existing neckties is not an option, we would suggest 57″ length for an average sized gentleman (5’8″ or 173cm) who wears trousers of average rise and ties a four-in-hand knot. Kindly note that this does not and cannot take into account a multitude of factors and we do not guarantee that the size will work! This is a crude estimation that should not be used unless you are purchasing a necktie as a gift and it is impossible to measure for the recipient.
Tie widths are really a matter of taste – we suggest a classic width of 3 1/2″ (8.9cm) for average size gentlemen, as it is proportionate to most mens’ figures and lapel sizes. Slimmer gentlemen, or gents that wear suits with smaller lapels, may be better off with a narrower width.
If you require a size that is not listed in the dropdown options, or require additional assistance in selecting your size, we would be glad to assist you if you write to us at info@vandafineclothing.com.
Bow Ties
Our bow ties can be adjusted by sliders to fit a range of neck sizes – the regular fits neck sizes from 14″ to 19”, while the small fits neck sizes from 9″ to 14″.
We offer two styles of bow ties, the batwing which is a more timeless style, or the diamond point which is a touch more modern.
Pocket Squares
Our pocket squares are offered in only one size, except for White Irish Linen and The Ultimate White Square, which are offered in two variants. In general, fabrics which are slightly more bulky are made smaller, and vice versa, in order to ensure minimal bulging in the breast pocket.
Scarves
The best way to determine your ideal scarf length would be to put on your favourite scarf, and tie your usual knot such that the one edge of the scarf falls around the middle of your belt buckle, or wherever you prefer it to be. Add or subtract the length that is too short/long to the scarf measurement, and you will have your ideal scarf length.
As a guideline, a 76″ long scarf is sufficient for a tying a double-looped knot on a 5’3″ (160cm) tall person, and a 82″ long scarf is sufficient for tying the same knot on a 5’9″ (175cm) tall person. If in doubt, pick a longer size as it is generally more versatile and allows you to tie a larger assortment of knots.
If you require a size that is not listed in the dropdown options, or require additional assistance in selecting your size, we would be glad to assist you if you write to us at info@vandafineclothing.com.
Hats
Place a measuring tape around your head 1/8″ (0.5cm) above your ear, encircling your entire head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly – you are essentially measuring the size of your head exactly where you would like your hat to sit. Make a note of the length in centimetres, and that is your desired hat size. If your measurement falls between sizes, please size up.

Care Instructions
All neckties and pocket squares should be professionally dry cleaned only, except for linen and cotton squares that can be hand washed cold.
For pocket squares, if you wish to iron them, please avoid pressing the handrolled edges which will destroy their plump and round shape. We do not recommend trying to iron your neckties yourselves as you are likely to remove the 3D nature of your product that we will not be able to restore without rebuilding it completely.
We recommend storing neckties hung up for at least 1-2 days after use to let gravity take care of the wrinkles, after which they can be rolled up for storage. Please take care to avoid crushing the handrolled edges in storage.
A recrafting service is offered for neckties made by Vanda Fine Clothing only, and we will re-slipstitch your necktie and replace the interlining for a fee of S$70 before GST, exclusive of delivery charges. Please contact us at info@vandafineclothing for more information.

Are the colours accurately represented?

Why are the dimensions on my tie slightly different than the stated measurements?
While we strive for perfection, the reality is that a handmade product is never going to be 100% perfect. This is especially so for our neckties which are all untipped and unlined/partially lined, and minor variation in specified widths and lengths should not be considered as defects, but rather the nature of a product made by hand with fine fabrics. In particular, since we do not press our ties’ edges completely flat, but rather allow them to roll naturally, they may appear to be slightly different than stated.
Also, unlined ties or partially lined neckties may stretch a little with use, since they are cut on the bias (in order to drape well) and do not have a very stiff interlining to hold them firmly in place. On our end we take extra care to pre-stretch each tie on the bias before cutting, and with some fabrics, we actually cut the tie a little shorter than the requested length in anticipation of stretch. Hence, upon receipt, most of our neckties will be slightly shorter than specified, but will stretch out to (approximately) your specified length. Alas, depending on how loosely woven the necktie fabric is or how tight the knots are tied, this is not a full guarantee that the ties will not stretch more than a little with repeated wear.
This is the little price that we pay for having elegant drape in a very lightly constructed tie. C’est la vie…
There is no keeper / tie loop at the back of my tie. Why is that so?
We do not add keeper loops to our ties because we prefer our ties to drape naturally, as opposed to having the front and back ends being stuck together. If you are interested in reading more about our craft, please have a look here: http://vandafineclothing
Why are there some yellow spots on my vintage kimono pocket squares?
The kimono fabrics that we use for some of our pocket squares are vintage, circa 1960s-1980s. While we check the fabrics to eliminate those that are in very bad condition, there may be some small yellow spots that we deem to be unnoticeable when worn, and does not affect the overall aesthetic or quality.
The product that I want is sold out. Will you restock it?
We have only limited pieces of each product and all are released at the same time. Restocks are unlikely but not impossible. Please email us at info@vandafineclothing.com.
How soon will my order be processed?
Please read the Order Processing Time section.
